urban legends

  • Nov. 16th, 2008 at 9:13 PM
This weekend was probably one of the most fun weekends i've had. Friday night Heather spent the night and the next day was the first day of the Urban Legends Dance Workshop. We took class from Elm Pizarro, Ellen Kim (one of my idols), and Brian Puspos. All three classes were amazing and i got called out in the first two. Its always a great experience to be in the presence of such amazing talent and witness the famous choreographers that came from their busy lives and taught us. Its crazy what they've all accomplished from going on tour with Janet Jackson, Gwen Stefani, NLT, and Omarion, to starting their own companies. They're all so well known in the dance community and it was amazing to get to take class from them and see them in person. I also got to see some of my dance friends from San Diego/San Marcos on erik's EKetc Company that i haven't seen in a while, and its always good seeing old familiar faces again :) After the workshop that saturday night i slept over at Heather's and so did Darah Stephanie and Caitlin. We all came home and we were starving and food was pretty much all we could think about since we'd been dancing for six hours without anything to fill our stomachs besides water. We got to Heather's and ate about two whole bags of chips and burgers, and then after that, got whitelime :) we also jacuzzi'd, hung out with the boys and stayed up till like 3am. I always have soo much fun with them. The next day (actually today) we had urban legends again and i was soooo excited for Kyle Hanagami's class. I had watched his dances on youtube long before i took his class.. well actually i've seen all of the choreographer's dances that we have.. youtube is pretty much where i do my dance research. Hahaha. But anyways, i've always loved his style and i was excited to do his choreo which was craaaazzyyy good. But hard as heck. The next two teachers were just flat out an inspiration. Not only was their choreo insane, but they were also some of the best dancer's i've ever seen. Rino Nakasone's style was all her own, no question, no one can dance like her. She was one of Gwen Stefani's Harajuku Girls and her class was phenomenal. Shaun Evaristo, who toured with Omarion and NLT probably has the best control and choreography i've ever seen. And he actually talked to me after class and told me about a new movie he's choreographing for, he also gave me some industry tips since i told him that i wanted to move to LA and start auditioning. But overall, the whole weekend was just awesome. I don't even know how to put it. It was worth the aching muscles and feet and going six hours without food, let's just put it that way.
